Which track is best to attend
« on: May 12, 2008, 10:06:37 PM »
Okay guys, heres your chance to make your opinion known.
Which track is the best one to attend an F1 race at?

Given all the factors. Weather, parking , price, seat location (view), country, etc.
I know that the best seat in the house is the living room with the great TV coverage that is available but being there live.........

I have never had a chance to go to a race and the wife and I are kicking around the idea.

Granted, I live in Nova Scotia Canada and the Montreal GP is in two weeks so we still are thinking about it. Tickets sre still available I believe, but I understand that to get a room that is not in the cockroach motel will cost you a small fortune.

So we may just look at other option. Silverstone would be great as we really England, but I love watching a race at Spa.
Any ideas?
Thanks

tough one to answer Willy

ive only been to monaco, Spa, and the French GP's, and it always rains at some point over the weekend

The French GP is the cheapest, its a rubbish race to watch on the TV, but when ur there its a good weekend

monaco, its got the razzamataz but disgustlingly expensive, beautiful part of the world tho

Spa is like Mecca, you should go at least once in your life time, even if its just to see Eau Rouge, its not a corner its a mountain, you can do it on the cheap or have an expensive weekend its your call. You can camp near the track, or stay in a hotel in Brussels, Germany or Holland, its all close together

Thanks for the input. Spa is the one I really want to see. But it seems to rain every time. I suppose thats part of the experience.
Eau Rouge draws me.

Yes I have as it is a great track, but having read about the seating issue with the tifosi I hesitate.
I may go to the French GP as we want to travel around France anyway and if we work it out correctly, we may be able to hit two races such as Britian afterwards.

If you do Magny-Couers, make sure it's this year. It's the last time it runs there (if Bernie is to be believed).

i wish i'd gone to magny cours last year, Roger Waters played with floyd, once in a life time gig and i missed it  :'(

but ive uploaded these pics for u of last years monaco GP

http://www.gpwizard.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=3088.0

dont expect any overtaking at monaco, the race is won or lost in the pits

i will go back there tho, but next time i'll sit outside a cafe drinking them little cups of coffee watching the race on tv, but u get to hear the real sounds. Monaco is very loud  :good:

If Indy come back, by all means go there. Last year, I was there for all four days, with an in-and-out pass for Thur through Sat and a seat in the main grandstand, just about right on the Start-Finish line. My parking is right outside the Main Gate. The whole package was about $150 US.

My room was about $80 for Fri and Sat, less for the other days. NOt 5 star by a long shot, but clean and close to the track. (With a good bar, too! :yahoo: )

The track puts on a great show for the fans. Thursday has the Pit Walkabout. They open up pit lane to the ticket holding fans. They have autograph sessions with every race driver, team by team, too.

There are live bands in the Pagoda Plaza every day. Live Speed Channel broadcasts from the Plaza every day except Race Day. They have a big name concert every race day. My favorite was when they had John Mellencamp a few years ago.

The race is usually the same week-end as the Indy Jazz & Blues Fest, too. Nearby Indianapolis Raceway Park usually has a big Sprint Car race Saturday night.

Not me. The Vegas races back in the 1980 were horrible. Even NASCAR can't pull a good crowd. The Champ Car race was a disaster. The city will always see racing as just an annoying distraction. The prices are astronomical, too.

F1'ed at Brands, that was a while ago, Silverstone and Spa and this year will be at Mangy Cours.

Loved Silverstone and Spa and as has already been said Spa is the mecca and has to be attended once.

As an aside.
I was in Surfers Paradise for the first Indy Car race and I have never been so close to cars while they are racing, interlocking concrete barrier with fencing on the top and I was the other side of it.
It was brilliant but a bit scary when you thought about it after.
Once you have retired every day is a Saturday!

Andy, I was at Surfers last year for the Indy, the champ cars were good to see that close, but scary is the entire V8 Supercar field going past at 100mph 2 inches off the wall... or when 1 of the Porsches in the carrera cup race hits the wall and the barrier moved 2 feet toward us....

Well there is Silverstone. Silverstone is.....well.....flat. I have been going for years and at least it is easier to get in and out of than it used to be. F1 cars going through Bridge is something to see. The main problem with Silverstone is you can only really see about two corners from anywhere (oh for the days when F1 was run at Brands Hatch where you can see the whole of the Indy Circuit from various points).
Spa is fantastic.
Monaco is expensive and the best spots are taken by 'luvvies' who have no idea what is going on but need to be seen amongst the other beautiful people.
I went to Montreal the week before the GP (business trip) and visited the track while it was being prepared. I had hoped to stay for the race but I was told the event was sold out. The place looks fantastic but I have no idea what the racing is like.
The track in Malaysia is easy to get to (close to the airport and plenty of parking). I saw the Moto GP there. Excellent.
