McNish Wins Le Mans
« on: June 15, 2008, 05:43:59 PM »
It was a good day for former F1 drivers at this year's 24 Hrs of Le Mans. the race was won by the R10 TDI of Audi Sport North America, driven by former Toyota F1 driver Allan McNish, along with Rinaldo Capello and Tom Kristensen. This give Kristensen a record eight wins in the event.

The second place Team Peugeot Total 908 Hdi-FAP was driven by Jacques Villeneuve, Marc Gene (both from F1) and Nicolas Minassian. The third place Peugeot was driven by three F1 vets, Franck Montagny, Ricardo Zonta and Christian Klien. Alex Wurz was in the 6th place Peugeot, along with Stephane Sarrazin and Perdo Lemy.

Other F1 names included Tomas Enge (10th, Lola Astin Martin LMP1), Jas Verstappen (11th overall, 1st in LMP2, Porsche RS Spyder) Mika Salo (19th overall, 1st GT2 Ferrari F 430 GT) and Ant Davidson (27th overall) in a GT2 Porsche 997 GT3 RSR.

I watched a large part of the race and it was facinating.  24 hours and the first two cars ended up on the same lap.  Absolutely gripping.

I missed one. One of Mika Salo's co-drivers in the GT2 Ferrari was former Minardi driver Gianmaria Bruni.
