Damage caused Glock crash
« on: July 29, 2008, 12:07:11 AM »
Timo Glock's heavy German Grand Prix crash was caused by damage sustained by his car at the previous race in Britain, his Toyota Formula One team said on Tuesday.

Cologne-based Toyota said in a statement that Glock, 26, had several incidents at Silverstone which led to the suspension failure that pitched his car into the wall at Hockenheim two weeks later.

"As is normal practice, some parts from the British Grand Prix were carried over to Hockenheim including most of the rear right suspension," the team said.

"Although the parts were subjected to the normal test and screening process following the Silverstone race and passed fit for use at Hockenheim, it has become apparent that it did not identify an issue which subsequently led to the incident at Hockenheim.

I wonder if this is a result of Coulthard's column on the ITV web site. He wondered why Toy isn't facing the same FIA scrutiny that RBR did at the star of the season:

Quote
I didn’t hear of any investigation into the structural integrity of the Toyota – but presumably that will happen because when we had a suspension breakage in Malaysia we came under the spotlight of the FIA in a way that was publicly uncomfortable for the team.
