F1 Teams Unite
« on: July 29, 2008, 08:54:50 PM »
F1's 10 teams have stated they have now entered into an agreement to establish a Formula One Teams Association. Following a meeting of the teams at Maranello, Ferrari issues this statement:

Quote
“All the Formula 1 teams met today in Maranello and held an extremely constructive meeting, in the presence of Bernie Ecclestone and Donald MacKenzie. The teams have subsequently agreed unanimously that they will establish the new Formula1 Teams Association to work with the FIA and FOM to agree upon regulations and commercial conditions which will provide a framework for a strong and dynamic sport.”

Donald MacKenzie is from CVC.

Flavio Briatore talked to La Gazzetta dello Sport about Max's absence:

"
Quote
His absence is felt as there's no project for F1. The teams feel abandoned."

I can't wait to see where this leads.

Can you see it last? I can't.

I wonder if Ferrari are going to give the team owners a guided tour of the factory whilst they are all at Maranello.

I was under the impression that the teams have had an association for decades.  It's called FOCA.  I guess someone has a new anagram in mind.  FISA + FOCA = FIASCO was the great T shirt slogan of the early 80s.  FIA + FOTA = ???

The fist thing I notice is that all of these groups have FA in common.  Maybe that is the root of the problem?

Perhaps Ferrari are pushing an aggenda to get F1 made a one constructor series, with you know who suppling the chassis. Without a constructors association the door is open wide for the likes of Red Bull to have multiple teams without the customer car worries.

Max, FOTA and FIAT will be able to give areas of the car to each of the constuctors and as McLaren already make the ECU that's all they'll get.

The problem is that the teams lost control of FOCA to Bernie, who now only cares about CVC's wallet (a change from previous years when he only cared about his own). So now FOCA2 is needed.

Task #1: Melt the earwax sticking Max Mosley's earplugs so tightly to his ears. Good luck.

According to grandprix.com the president of FOTA is Luca deMontezemolo.  O'FIAT is starting to sound like someone swearing.

You know this could end up being a very shrewd move. I wonder if Ron proposed him.

Montezemolo will now have to put all the constructors proposals to Max's new FIASCO or what ever they call themselves. I'd love to watch Luca present a set of proposals that will have passed with an overwhelming majority but without agreement from Ferrari.

At least with the new 51% rule instead of unanimity this can happen.

Sounds like fun. ;)
