MG Production Restarts
« on: August 05, 2008, 01:48:23 PM »
Agence France-Presse reports that MG production at Longbridge restarted last Friday, 1 Aug. 08.  The facility in Birmingham was mothballed when MG Rover collapsed three years ago with the loss of 6,000 jobs.

Longbridge opened in 1905. It was started by one of the great names of British motoring - Herbert Austin. As well as making cars, Longbridge turned out munitions in the First World War and planes in the Second World War.

In 1959, production of the iconic Mini began at Longbridge, by which time Austin had been amalgamated with Morris and become the British Motor Corporation.

MG production had been centered on Abington until that plant closed after MGB and Midget production stopped circa 1980.
