Dakar Split
« on: August 09, 2008, 04:02:15 PM »
Now that US open wheel racing has finally re-united, there comes a split in Raid

With the 2008 Dakar cancelled, and the 2009 moving to South America, 3 time Dakar winner Hubert Auriol is setting up a competing event in Africa. Africa Race 2008 is set for 26 Dec 08 to 11 Jan 09. According to their website:

Quote
The fundamental aim of this new race is clear: to allow each competitor to experience a ‘personal’ adventure in a great international rally. A sporting challenge but at the same time a superb human adventure in the heart of a continent with a thousand faces.

The whole thing seems pretty sketchy to me. With the race only 4 months away, they haven't even set a route, or even said which European City it will start from. As far as I can tell, the only European segment will be tech scrutineering in Marseille.
