Vettel 'not for sale' - Mateschitz
« on: September 20, 2008, 09:45:18 PM »
F1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone is keen to see Sebastian Vettel switch to a top team as soon as possible.

"We will help him to achieve that," the British billionaire is quoted as saying by Autobild Motorsport.

Vettel, 21, became Formula One's youngest pole sitter and Grand Prix winner in history at Monza last weekend.

He currently drives for Toro Rosso, but is set to move up to Red Bull's sister senior team in 2009.

Ecclestone said: "I have always said that he is good. Now I say he is super."

But Vettel's boss, the Red Bull magnate Dietrich Mateschitz, is not interested in letting the exciting young German out of his grasp.

"Sebastian has a contract with us," the Austrian, who is also a billionaire, told the German newspaper Bild. "He is not for sale. With him, we want to attack the top teams and move to the top."

Looks like Bernie may have met his financial match and will have to help Renault get the engine regs sorted if wants Vettel to be in a top performing car next season.

Someone in Bernie's position should not be interfering in inter-team matters.  He is supposed to represent all the teams not a few.  You would have thought by now he would have developed enough class to know it was wrong to unsettle someone's driver.  It is especially stupid since Mateschitz owns two teams.

I have to agree with you Steven, why should Bernie
care what driver drives where.

Reminds me of basketball legend Bobby Knight when
he was asked if God was with them,he said God
doesn't care who wins a ball game, maybe Bernie
should follow God's rules and stop meddling
Mark Twain once opined, "it's easier to con someone than to convince them they've been conned."
