Mansell wash out
« on: August 14, 2006, 07:40:38 PM »

Nigel Mansell's British Grand Prix Masters homecoming turned into a damp squib at Silverstone. Mansell was forced to retire after spinning countless times early in the rain-hit race to see his unbeaten record in the series ended.

The 1992 world-beater managed just three difficult laps as American veteran Eddie Cheever triumphed by more than 16 seconds from Belgium's Eric van de Poele.

Mansell, 53, spun on the warm-up lap behind the safety car, but twice attempted to return to the race, however, he had to retire to the disappointment of the 10,000 crowd and was classified last.  :(

Saw a bit of this on TV last night. The reason he kept spinning was because the diff was already shattered when he started. Typical Mansell to still give it a go though :)
