French GP Cancelled
« on: October 15, 2008, 11:16:31 PM »
Pitpass.com just announced that the 2009 French Grand Prix has been cancelled due to economic reasons.

Just like Canada.

Way to go Bernie!!!!!

Can you say goodbye Silverstone?

Willy, does'nt that white rugged moron realise that fans love the traditional circuits.
An aircraft landing is just a controlled crash.

I wonder what Renault thinks about losing their home race.

Look on the bright side. You still have races in Europe. Next year, the Arabian and Malay peninsulas will each have twice as many races as all of North and South America combined!

I hate losing this race too but I'm not too sure
Bernie is to blame for  this one.

I just read on Pitpass.com that the race is likely to move to the Disneyland Resort in France. What an appropriate site for yet another Mickey Mouse street circuit!

Having the race in Paris isn't such a
bad idea,having another Tilke track
is another race wasted, won't they ever
learn

Dare, me ol' fruit. Never mind the good or bad ideas. Never mind what we enthusiasts think. We don't matter.

What does is the Three wise men - Max, Bernie and Hermann making another packet.

If the race can be run through the streets of Paris it would be a great thing for the sport. Now there is a venue worth watching.

Hold on...I have it... lets run it at night as well!!!

After all, it's called the "City if Light", isn't it?

But truthfully, I would love to watch, or better yet, attend a street race in Paris. As long as it's not some concrete walled procession like Valencia.

I read that the French Motorsports Authority withdrew the race from the calendar because they don't have enough money to lose the amount they usually do on the race.

If I'm correct, Mangy Cour has nothing around it in the way of ammenities. So the fans don't go as they have nowhere to stay and nothing to do.

A race in Paris....lets see...I wonder if there will be anything else to keep the fans occupied before and after the event?

Sorry, just being sarcastic.

Another Valencia style, concrete canyon, follow the leader yawn fest. Wonderful.

It's a shame they can't find a real track in the middle of a exciting metropolitan city.

Like, maybe, Indianapolis. Or, say, Montreal.

As for a French F1 venue, how about this:

LeMans!

France has had some brilliant NATURAL circuits over the years. Is it possible none of them are good enough for the Three Wise Men ?

I'm thinking Rouen, Clermont Ferrand, Le Mans. The list goes on.

As long as that's Le Mans the 24-hour circuit and not Le Mans Bugatti circuit that F1 visited in 1967, I'd be happy with the idea.

To the purist even the 24 hour circuit has been spoilt......visions of 917s doing over 200 down the Mulsanne straight.

At least the 24-hour circuit could accommodate the F1 cars without looking like a rural Valencia...
