F1's American dream intact
« on: December 20, 2008, 06:19:50 PM »
McLaren team boss Ron Dennis is confident North America will be back on the Formula One calendar "within the next three years".

The FIA's decision to drop Canada from next season's schedule means the continent will be without a grand prix for the first time since 1958 after the US GP was cut in 2008.

Officials from both Montreal and Indianapolis have made various attempts to get their respective grands prix reinstated, but without any success.

Dennis, though, insists it is only a matter of time before Formula One makes a return to North America.

"There shouldn't be anybody who feels we are turning our backs on North America," Dennis told the The Associated Press.

"We are really trying hard to find the model that works. We just haven't found a solution yet. That's not to say we're going to give up on it.

"We definitely expect to be back in North America within the next three years."

I sure hope so, Stig. Between the total loss of F1 races over here and the withdrawal of most of the major teams from the ALMS, these are bleak days for racing fans over here.
