Toyota Stops Production

Demand for cars is falling at an alarming rate, and as a result Toyota is halting production at their Japanese factories for 11 days. The problem is no one is buying, so Toyota sees no point to keep making the vehicles.

The December U.S. auto sales figures were very poor, which is why Toyota is stopping production for 11 days in February and March. Toyota has yet to release their 2009 sales predictions, but one thing is certain, they will be very low.

I find the way the media over here is reporting this story as a sad commentary on their own bias. When Detroit sales fall, it's because "they build cars that nobody wants." When Toy falls, it's because of "the poor economy." This in spite of the fact that Detroit still sells a couple of million more vehicles per year over here than all of the Asian manufacturers combined.
