MG Returns to Longbridge

Chinese auto maker Nanjing Automobile Company (NAC) has changed the name of the former MG Rover from NAC MG UK to MG Motors UK. Production of the current MG sports car, the TF LE 500 has resumed at Longbridge.

"The new name will help strengthen the company's reputation and re-emergence in the market by emphasizing the already well known MG brand," a company spokesperson said.

Longbridge will be assembling the cars from kits shipped from China. Ironically, this is a reversal of the days when MG would ship Completely Knocked Down (CKD) cars from Abingdon to places like Italy and Australia for local assembly.

Previously announced plans to build MGs for the US market in Oklahoma have been dropped. There are no current plans for MG to re-enter the US market.
