Ordinarily I don't write you about such matters, but I feel as though the gravity of the situation warrants it. About what situation do I speak? Um, er, this: The abomination that appeared on the stand at the Geneva motor show this morning. Yeah, the Lagonda sport-utility vehicle concept.

How to best express myself? Bleech!

As humans, we know some things by instinct and learn others that carry us through life. We learn that fire is good and bad. We know if you step off a tall building, chances are great that you won't be around for your next birthday.

We also know that Aston Martin, purveyors of perhaps the most elegant sports cars the world has seen come from the British Isles, should not build a lorry.

Please, dear God, you aren't serious! C'mon, Uli. Yes, you want to stretch your "brand" into other markets, but a friggin' truck? Are you sniffing the glue that secures the Alcantara headliner to your cars? Sheesh.

How did anyone approve the design of that thing.  It is offensively ugly.  At leat the 1970s Lagonda in its day looked really advanced as if it was from Thunderbirds.  It looks bad now but not then.

You're right, Steven. I can remember first seeing it on the cover of Car and Driver magazine and thinking, "Wow!" Remember, that was the era of things like the TR7, the AMC Gremlin and the rubber bumpered MGs.

I think you are missing the point with this AM prototype guys, yes to us it is pig ugly, but it is aimed at the Porsche Cayenne buyers and is trying to appear futuristic to that crazy set not the general public.
