Who are the RAINMEISTERS?
« on: April 05, 2009, 04:22:21 AM »

some people rate real drivers the best if  they can race well in the rain like MS

who are the current F1 drivers who shine in the rain?

LH

KR

RK?

SV

any more?

think you'd have to add JB as he won his 1st GP
in the rain at Hungry

Fisichella used to be but as late I'm not too sure

I think Rubens should be on the list too.

Yeah, I'd have added both BrawnGP drivers too.  Glock looked quite tasty today as well.

The title "rainmeister" means a driver who has apparently magical skills on a wet track and who has demonstrated such a skill consistently.  Vettel does not qualify, therefore, his reputation coming purely from a couple of wet races last year in which he was in the STR3, a car known to be superior in the wet.  To include Glock on the strength of one race is laughable - he was the only driver on the correct tyres at the time of his surge towards the front.

There is usually only one true rainmeister in a generation.  Senna unquestionably was, I suppose I have to grant Schumacher the title too, much as I dislike doing it.  Today, the only one who seems to stand head and shoulders above the rest is Hamilton, although he needs to demonstrate his skills in this area a few more times for my money.  Button has some claim to the title, as does Heidfeld, although their wet weather skills are not really magical, just out of the ordinary.

And (to set the cat amongst the pigeons) Kubica is decidedly ordinary in the rain.

I know he's little, but there was a guy on the second step of the podium too - his name is Heidfeld.

Well, technically I did only put Glock looked quite tasty 'today' and not necessarily an attempt to make him into the 'rainmeister'.  I think Button would be the man of choice for me, however I am sure Hamilton would disagree after his comments from last year about his surprise of no one following his racing line in the wet.

If you have a car that is lacking grip in the dry it's going show it up even further in the wet where as if you have a car lacking power it's a benefit in the wet.
Lewis would still be my choice of the current crop. ;)

From the current crop I have to say Lewis, but this does bring up another great argument about who the greatest rainmeisters of all times would be.

Stewart and Ickx immediately spring to mind as being well up there, but I don't know much about the 50s and the pre war years.

Would take a good driver to beat Schumi in the wet JB.
