I don't think they can make a tire hard enough to last a whole race without the drivers all whining that they have no grip, and it's dangerous to run slipping and sliding around. :DntKnw:

They banned tire changes a few years ago.  It's possible to create a tire that lasts the whole race.

The only cure for driver whining is a decisive victory from pole.

Jeri is absolutely correct. It is relatively easy to produce a tyre that can last a whole race. The compound would not be a great deal different to that used in Formula 3.
I know the comparison is a bit of a stretch but look at Moto GP and World Superbikes. Very powerful bikes have to complete a whole race on one pair of tyres and this adds a new dimension to race skill. The really clever riders are gentle on the tyres at the beginning of the race and then get progressively faster. Other riders rely on their ability to ride a bike on the last few laps with zero grip. The result is still some great racing. There is no reason why F1 could not ban tyre changes but this would only make sense if they banned fuel stops as well.

I didn't say that they couldn't make a tire that would last, I said I doubted that the drivers would like it.

I reckon the best cure for a whinging driver is a win from a crap grid position

With absolutely zero racing experience (outside of a video game), I'd think that having at least one pit stop is a good thing, just to give the driver 5 seconds to 'relax' in the middle of a 90 minute adrenaline rush.  Few other sports require that much continuous attention and exertion!

One set of tires and no fuel stops certainly saves a tonne of cash though...

Agree entirely, so long as they don't have to use a different compound as they do now.

Champ Car gave the only plausible excuse I've ever heard for forcing the teams to use 2 different tire compounds during a race. With a single tire supplier, the only time they get mentioned on TV is when a tire fails. Having 2 compounds used during a race results in the tire supplier getting their name on the air much more.

I think the strategy of the pit stops made the
race much more interesting. One set of tires,
no refueling,what's next?How about a draw for
grid order that would save a few quids

The real solution to cost cutting would be to hook up all the teams simulators online and just have a virtual race. Fans could sign up and choose whatever "camera" they wanted to watch. No Travel expenses, only a really good internet service.

But then instead of Max changing the race results, we'd have hackers breaking in and making the hot dog wagon win the race or something.   :D
