What is Max left with?
« on: June 19, 2009, 12:42:24 PM »
Although it is still possible (even if extremely unlikely) that Max will capitulate under Bernie's orders and F1 continue under the FIA (presumably with Nick Craw taking Max's job), it is interesting to speculate about the future.

Most of the theorising has centred on what FOTA will create as a new series but I find it just as much fun to look at the possibilities for Max's version of F1.  He has five teams confirmed - Williams, Force India, USF1, Campos and Manor.  Then he has a reserve list of new teams that applied but did not make the first cut.  The idea was to accept their applications if FOTA really did break away but it's looking like a bad bet at the moment.

Lola and N Technology have already withdrawn their applications.  According to Alianora (http://formula1home.com/forum/weblog_entry.php?e=757), ten teams submitted entries originally (ignoring FOTA's conditional entry), five of which were accepted with, presumably, the remaining five going to the wannabe list.  With the two withdrawals, that means there are three possible replacements for the FOTA eight.  Of these, Prodrive at least is extremely annoyed at being excluded from the first round and so are much more likely to withdraw and apply to enter the FOTA series.  The list comes down to two.

Which leaves Max with a potential field of seven teams.  That is fourteen cars, folks.  Not much of a continuation of F1, is it?

Under those circumstances, he could, and likely would, go with three car teams. This would boast him to 21, clear of the 18 to 20 he needs to fulfill TV contracts. That move would, of course, blow his budget cap out of the water.

14 cars or 21 cars it would be a low grade mix of Formula 3 and GP2. Not F1.
Is it possible that the idiot has finally managed it? To destroy F1 so that nobody can take his job because there isn't a job to take!

exactly Monty, without the main teams the idiot has nothing but bitter memories which he utterly deserves.

The FIA is a large organisation with far more responsibilities than sanctioning Formula One races.  If F1, and the support races vanished, Max's day would be just as busy as before.  He would just be a little more obscure.

It was Max himself who said that F1 needed someone dedicted full time to overseeing the sport, not someone responsible for the whole of FIA.

I somehow think Max was probably applying for the job, not asking for help. ;)

Your assumption requires Williams and FIF1 to stay in the old F1, I rather think that both may be looking for the exit door if the new breakaway series becomes a reality.

Seems unlikely that Williams would eat the deposit/entrance fee. Their decisions will be dictated by sponsors.  I'm thinking that Williams will be the belweather of the sole thing.

Well said Monty :good:

I watch some of the lower formula sometimes, no names and single seaters without the extreme speeds is very dull to watch and hard to get into. Max truely is a male chicken!!
