There has always been talk that Toyota-owned Fuji got on the calender as part of a back-room deal when Toy entered F1.

The only reason the tracks lose money is Bernies greed.
That has always been the issue with Silverstone. They refused to pay Bernie more money than they could make in gate money, trade pitches and corporate income. I think that is called 'good business'.
Fuji and Suzuka could run with losses because they were being sponsored by their owners. The new tracks are all being sponsored by local or national governments. It's about time Bernie reduced his demands to commercially affordable levels.

The local governments are interested in the 'spin off' revenue:  hotel and restaurant bookings, appearing on TV around the world.  For many races, they're not trying to turn a profit on the race, but rather boost the local economy to collect long term tax revenue.  I'm not sure how a for profit Grand Prix could possibly compete against that.

Of course, Bernie knows this.  He's run perilously close to killing his golden goose, so its going to be interesting to watch him tip toe around the current financial situation facing all tracks.

Bring back the original Nurburgring. All 14 miles of it.

Way cool.
Imagine, a pitstop about every second lap for tires.

I'd love to see it, but having a thousand marshals doesn't fit with cost cutting.  Even if they're volunteers, they need to be trained and equipped.

Waiting for the computer to update standings over three 5-mile sectors will leave Martin Brundle totally lost, which could be funny.

It would put a whole new spin on qualifying though - drivers would only get two goes in Q3, and they'd have to be consecutive laps!
