Piquet's future remains uncertain
« on: July 16, 2009, 02:49:28 AM »
You have to love Flav for saying maybe he'll
be in the car

Wednesday 15th July 2009   PlanetF1

Renault boss Flavio Briatore has refused to confirm who will line-up with Fernando Alonso at the Hungary GP later this month.

The Formula One road show heads to the Hungaroring later this month, but it is unclear whether or not Nelson Piquet jr will join Renault at the race.

Briatore has often criticised the Brazilian for his poor performances and after last weekend's German GP, in which Piquet once again failed to score a point, the Renault chief was non-committal about Piquet's future.

When asked by Autosport about the 23-year-old's chances of racing in Hungary the Italian replied, "I don't know. Maybe I am in the car myself..."

The driver himself seems more upbeat about his future, writing on his Twitter feed that the team had promised him that come Hungary he would have the same performance updates that Alonso had in Germany, which suggests that the team intends to give him at least one more race.

"The team have promised that me and Fernando will have the same car for the next race," he wrote.

Should Piquet get the boot Renault's third driver Romain Grosjean and Brazilian Lucas di Grassi are thought to be the front runners to fill the position.

I think Flavio must have decided he'd need too aggressive a weight-loss programme to be in the car for Hungary, which would explain why Nelson has been confirmed as being in that seat for next race...

Maybe they couldn't buy the Minardi 2 seater and put the
Renault livery on fast enough
