Sauber not about to retake team ownership
« on: July 29, 2009, 07:57:16 PM »

According to this report Peter Sauber retained 20% ownership of the team and did not just have his name on the team out of respect. The result's still the same - no rescue!

Peter Sauber on Wednesday played down hopes he might simply step back in and resume leadership of his Swiss-based Formula One team.

The 65-year-old, who sold his Hinwil-based outfit to BMW at the end of 2005, said he fears the Munich manufacturer's withdrawal from Formula One could mean the closure of the team.

"I respect and accept the decision but am still finding it hard to digest," Sauber, who retains a 20 percent shareholding of the team he founded in 1993, told the German news agency DPA.

It has been suggested that Sauber could now step back in and resume running the outfit as a privateer, but the Swiss played down that prospect.

"The position we are in now makes it very difficult," he said without elaborating.

So who wants BMW-Sauber?

There were 8 applicants to join F1 this year.  Certainly any of the three accepted teams would be better off taking over an existing facility in place of building a new one.

How about letting Todt run Sauber instead of the FIA?

If (God forbid) Massa is still out next season, we could see Schumacher, Brawn and Todt in head to head competition!

Otherwise, maybe the Piquets and Sennas can go halvsies and give the kids some cars to race.

Or, let Christian Horner have a third team!  Whats German for 'Red Bull'?
