They don't have to be crushed. The only thing that has to be destroyed is the engine. The oil is replaced with a caustic solution and the engine is run until it seizes. I know of at least one beautiful Lincoln Town Car that got a junk yard engine and is now the prized possession of the dealership's sales manager! :yahoo:
