Japanese Tinplate Toy Cars
« on: August 17, 2009, 01:39:37 PM »
All of us above a certain age grew up with tinplate Japanese toys. I didn't know that there was a name for the art form.

It's called Buriki

The Japan Society in New York City is having a display of Yoku Tanaka Collection of the toys.

The story of the toys:

And a gallery of pictures:

I can remember having an aqua and white 1959 Ford Skyline retractable like the one in the display. I wish I still did!

When I was a kid I had a case of Dinky and Corgi cars, all in their boxes and pristine, well, one day I decided I was too old for them and gave them to my young cousin, within 6mths they were all trashed. Have you seen the prices they are going for now  :'(  :'(  :'(

When I was at college, my Mom sold all my 50s comic books in bulk for 10 cents each. :'(

I still have a load of Corgi and Matchbox cars from my childhood, some real nice ones too. I wonder are they worth anything?? I wonder could I part with them??
