Rally stars help Burns Foundation
« on: October 08, 2009, 12:35:53 PM »

Good to see Richard Burns name still gets respect from people in WRC and in general.

By David Evans, Autosport.com

World Rally Championship stars Mikko Hirvonen and Sebastien Loeb attended last week's Rally Travel charity auction to raise money for the Richard Burns Foundation and Michael Park Fund.

WRC teams and drivers had donated a variety of car parts and clothing for the auction, which raised £4,000.

Among the most popular items were Henning Solberg's front wing from Rally Australia last year, which was signed and sold to a bidder from Sweden for £300. Rally fans from as far afield as China and South Africa attended.

Burns' co-driver Robert Reid said he was delighted to see the sport's current stars getting involved in the auction.

"It means a great deal to know that rally fans are still out there supporting the charities for Richard and Michael. These two guys were something very special in our world and using the monies raised in their names, we can help improve the lives of others.

"I think we're all aware of just how busy a rally week can be - particularly when both Sebastien [Loeb] and Mikko [Hirvonen] are embroiled in the middle of the closest fight for the world title in years, so we're really grateful that they gave up their time."
