It baffles me (well, not really but watch anyway) why these F1 cars don't just spontaniously blow up more often than they do!

Wow that was a cool video. You can see why cooling can be such an issue. They say that during a race the metal of the exhausts can become so hot they become transparent.

There is a lot of engineering going into a modern F1 car.  It's basically a contest to see who can make the car that's closest to disintegrating, without it actually happening.

Almost the opposite of any other engineering endeavour!

I love that aspect of the sport, which is really absent most other formula.

There was a post on here once giving some unbelievable data on F1 engines, I'm not into all the tech stuff, but one of the details was about how many times a cylinder fires every second, it was insane. If anyone can remember the post it's great reading.

I found the post, it's on Pit Pass, page 5, 158 times a second, worth looking at, no wonder when an F1 engine lets go it's spectacular.

Thats a cool video to see the stress and strain an engine and exhust system go through. It also shows the neccessity of a good cooling system. I must admit though i was a bit disappointed it didnt end in a big bang hehe :p
