Does Alonso prefer Heikki over Sergio?
« on: September 13, 2012, 08:51:56 PM »

Reports say Massa's likely replacement Kovalainen, not Perez.  :swoon:

The silly season rumour mill is obviously still grinding away.  :D

The management of Heikki Kovalainen has been invited to Ferrari to discuss a drive for the 2013 Formula 1 season. That is according to Finnish television company MTV3, with the Caterham driver now being tipped as a leading candidate for Fernando Alonso’s team-mate.

As explained in the latest GPUpdate.net Insight, feelings coming out of Maranello are that Alonso may see Sergio Pérez as too much of a threat and that Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo is mentioning Sebastian Vettel as a smokescreen tactic. Whether the Kovalainen talks are preliminary or serious remains to be seen.

According to MTV3, Kovalainen and his team have also been in contact with the Lotus squad which currently runs Romain Grosjean and fellow Finn Kimi Räikkönen. He has already spent a season with the Enstone team, having made his F1 debut with the outfit then known as ‘Renault F1’ in 2007. Neither Ferrari nor Kovalainen have confirmed any talks.

Might not be that crazy an idea though.  Whilst I still imagine it will be Perez, Heikki has done very well and matured greatly at Caterham.  Also he would probably be glad to move back to the front of the grid and, given his experience with Alonso, be more amenable to being a 'team player'.

Always liked Heikki but I would much rather see Perez in that seat!

Fulfill another Italian's  dream of a lifetime, give Trulli
a one year contract :good:

What harm could it do?

Didn't Enzo prefer the WCC to the WDC?

Team owners always prefer the WCC to the WDC. The WDC recognizes individual achievement while the WCC is the team championship.

Great! That will send Perez to take Hamiltons spot at McLaren

Hmmm, sounds like there was some truth to the story in the Blick.  That's ok, I'd rather see Perez at Mclaren.  He might turn Ferrari into a powerhouse again. ;) :P

Seriously though, Kovallainen hasn't really turned many heads, has he?  I can count 3-4 youngsters I'd choose before him.  :DntKnw:

I'm sure Alonzo wants the "other" driver on his team to be a "second" driver. Perez doesn't look like he'd stay a "second" driver for long.

I agree with Dare. Bring Jarno back!

The only one on the grid who's likely to look forward to the return of the Trulli Train in races is Nando,  :P  him out front and everyone else forming an orderly queue  - behind Jarno.  :D

But surely if Ferrari wants a slightly more mature ex F1 man they would go for Fischi, he's under contract after all.

Its really kind of funny, because I recently suggested Heikki as the replacement of Massa rather than popular believe of Sergio. This also shows that Ferrari is trying avoid the McLaren saga in their own backyard. Heikki or Jarno both are welcome, but I would prefer Heikki as because Jarno might have difficulty to cope up with this eggshell tyres.

Not so long ago it was said that the option for seats was very limited but how wrong we were!
Is Lewis on the move? Will Schumi go or will Rosberg be a Maccy driver? Is Alonso afraid of the Mexican bandit? Will any of the young guns who do well on Friday's and tests find a seat?
Is it still revolving around Schumi or is the Lewis deal done with Schumi taking the management role and maybe test driver which he is quite good at and gives him greater input.
I think a move to Mercedes for Lewis would be good for him especially with Kompressor's coming which is a big link to the production cars and Lewis's income could go through the roof.
Ferrari need a number two as Alonso cannot deal with competition within the team so Heikki fits the bill well but is he better than he was at Maccy's?
If Perez moves it leaves what looks like a good seat available will that go to a young gun?

I always thought the Trulli Train was a sign of how good a driver Jarno is. One of the first items in the job description of a race driver is "Don't let them pass you." If Jarno could could keep all of those drivers behind him in obviously inferior equipment, just think what he could do in a competitive car.

With todays FLappy Rear Wing, Pirelli tyres and KERS  he would accelerate to the back of the field we do not get trains for long now.

You're absolutely right Andy.  Of course there's also, well let's just call it the have-a-go style on the grid now, the Maldonado/Grosjean/kobi/et al shunt to pass effect to contend with now.  ;)

I was really trying to wind up Dare,  :tease:  but Cos took up the challenge instead.  ;)
