Changes to Baku
« on: April 25, 2023, 09:43:37 PM »
It seems that the FIA and F1 are changing the rules ago and race quali will now be Friday with the Silly Sprint all day Saturday!
Confusing or what especially at the last minute!https://www.planetf1.com/news/f1-sprint-format-fia-sprint-shootout-schedule-baku/
The Grid Game Quali deadline is now wrong and gives little time to make changes!

Once you have retired every day is a Saturday!

Qualifying deadline is April 28 with the fastest time
to start on pole on the April 30th race. Isn't that right.

Okay, just so I get it right.....two separate sprint races.
One on Friday to set the grid for the Saturday sprint.
The Saturday sprint then sets the race grid for Sunday.

This is getting silly and will eventually burn out the mechanics and the drivers.
Especially as they increase the amount of sprint races to supposedly appease fans who clamor for more content. At least that is the thinking of Liberty I bet.

Andy it goes like this:-

Friday - Practice 1 as usual, then Quali for Sun GP race is 2nd session.

Saturday - Quali for Sprint race is first session followed by Sprint race as 2nd session.

Sunday - GP as normal with grid formed from Fri Quali session (N.B. GP grid will not be taken from Sprint race result but from Friday Quali session.)

Saturday will start with the Sprint Shootout, a shorter version of the regular Q1-Q2-Q3 format. It determines the grid for the Sprint. The sprint is run later on Saturday. Nothing on Saturday effects the starting order for Sunday. It's just a chance to wipe out your car for no real purpose.

Can this actually be cheaper than running a couple of support series races?

It comes across as everyone being desperate to make Sprint qualifying worthy of anyone's time, and only succeeding in handing things even more to Red Bull and reducing the amount of excitement likely to be offered.

All I can tell you is get your picks in Friday. I have qualifying
in the GG set up for Friday April 28th even though the clock doesn't show it.

I'm really getting tired of times, dates, and rules changing race to race.
