French GP back?
« on: July 25, 2007, 02:43:24 AM »
I've seen some rumors around the net that Bernie the Evil Troll has met with French Prime Minister Fillon and have cut a deal to keep the race at Magny-Cours for two to four more years. If true, I wonder how much that cost the French taxpayers?

Anybody else heard anything?

Bernie has agreed in principle to maintain the race at Magny-Cours in 2008, and even 2009 if there was no other alternative.

The French motorsport federation said in a statement published on July 20 that it was determined to organise the race until the expiry of the contract with Ecclestone in 2011.

It added that the entry for the 2008 French GP would be confirmed for Magny-Cours if local and regional authorities provided more money to the federation to help the event break even until another venue was found.

I think whatever the costs, at least another classic racing country still has a Grand Prix, even for the short term.
