A little something on all of the above:

Here's something to think about: Smokey & The Bandit is 30 years old this year. It was the second biggest box office film of 1977. (Star Wars beat it) To commemorate the anniversary. a bunch of classic Trans Am owners got together and made the run from Texarkana to Atlanta:

http://www.hotrod.com/eventcoverage/hrdp_0709_bandit_pontiac_trans_am_run/index.html

By the way, the song "Convoy" didn't come from a movie. The song came first, and the movie was based on it.

Ben Jones (Cooter) has a Dukes of Hazzard Museum in Gatlinburg, TN. They hold an annual Dukesfest:

After The Dukes run on TV ended, Ben Jones got elected to Congress!

I got to meet Boxcar Willie once back in the early 1980's. I'm a model railroader and had some of my stuff at the Ohio State Fair model railroad display. BW was doing a concert at the fair, and one of his people ask if we would stay open long enough for him to come in and look around. He was a very friendly guy who really did know about trains!

Y'all take it easy now.

Good find, Dare :good:

I spotted one error. I don't know of any KD railroad. His father worked for the Katy (Missouri, Kansas & Texas or MKT). The song "She Caught the Katy" is about it. And, to bring this post full circle, that song was in one of the greatest car & soundtrack movies ever, sung by these two fine lads:

That has got to be one of the strangest car chases ever. I love it! :yahoo:

I'm not sure where this thread is going but its a cool one. If its a trip down memory lane you want try this one.

How about your favourite TV and film opening sequences as well?

Good call on Blues Brothers Cos, I own both of the movies..... and talk about irony, it's on pay tv tonight....... and I only watched it 2 weeks ago.... I also enjoy most of the driving in Ronin and the Bourne trilogy.

Midway Airport in Chicago has life size statues of Jake and Elwood Blues in one of the concours. I'll be going through there on my way home from San Diego. If I've got time, I'll grab a pix!
