Does F1 need the FIA?

Yes they are a benefit.
No they are of no benefit.
Does the FIA need F1 more that F1 needs the FIA?

I'm not so sure that the FIA are a benefit to F1, we love F1 for the racing , for the individual ideas, the technology and the excitement of overtaking but it seems more and more the FIA are intent to stop all of that.

So do we need them?

What do you think?

I deeply regret that the breakaway did not happen.  The other teams should not have followed Ferrari back to the FIA.  THey should have stood their ground.

If there was a massive shake up at the FIA which got rid of all the backhanded political moves and apparent favouritism they could be good for F1, alas I cannot see it happening, there is too much money involved.

I still hold out hope that we could get decent leadership in the FIA eventually, who can repair the damage. But until then, the FIA needs F1 a lot more than F1 needs the FIA.

us how the FIA is useful

I wonder if the FIA has copywrited "Formula 1", "World Driver's Championship", "World Constructor's Championship", "Grand Prix" or any of the other phrases we use to refer to F1?

The FIA own the terms F1, Formula 1, Formula One etc.  Bernie for reasons that can only be guessed at owns GP2 and also owns GP1.  I wonder what he could do with GP1?

I am certain that there was a court case that ruled that the terms Formula 1 and F1 could not be copyrighted because they were common words, or at least that is what I recall.

Correct me if I am wrong?

What really worries me is that when Max goes Jean Todd is being lined up as his replacement now he would not have a bias towards Ferrari would he.

It looks like you have a point Rom.  They faild to get a trade mark for F1.  I am unsure as to copyright status for it and other versions or tradmark status of other versions.  I am sure their is something in place which means no-one else can use them.

Ahh yes trademarked, that's what I meant.  The main reason I remember is because this used to be F1Wizard, and the Wiz was asked to remove the F1, shortly after becoming GPWizard we saw that F1 was ruled as non-trademarked.

A little trivia about the History of GPWizard

There is a chain of tyre/exhaust depots that is named Formula 1 who have been trading in Britain for the last 15 or 20 years. I can't see how that name can therefore be copyrighted or a trademark exclusive to the FIA

With the FIA's recent  and not so recent doing why
would a business want to be associated with the name F1

It's still a great sport even with idiots trying to drag it down. We all love F1, we just hate Bernie and Max.

I couldn't have put it better myself.... F1 will always be King.... it's the politics that I hate.... and the racing, the machines..... that's what it is all about.... for several hours every couple of weeks for most of the year I am in heaven....
