I agree with John.
With Williams Carlos will at least have a seat for the foreseeable future and can then make a better(?) move from there when the time comes. If he sits at home until a great seat comes up, he will have missed it.

I reckon Carlos choice over seat is similar to a spinning car in front of you on track, you hold your line as one in trouble will probably not be there when you arrive on the scene - but it's not guaranteed.  :D

As Hulkenberg found out in Monaco :-)  As Perez and Magnussen came together, he could either slam on the breaks or accelerate past them and hope. He chose the latter, but didn't quite make it.

Think Williams makes more sense than Audi in the shorter term. All big teams shut off to Carlos for various reasons so he needs to figure out next best available for 26 & 27.

Audi has to get both engine & chassis right to be anywhere in 26/27 where as Williams will have Merc engines, and who would bet against Merc acing it again. Add to this an improving factory with lots of investment at Williams and they should be a mid grid, or better, team by then.
Audi will probably not come on stronger, if ever, until 3rd or 4th year (28/29)

We can't assume all teams will be in same order on grid come 26, some will move forward & some backwards, guessing right is a tricky business.

Looks like the seat is facing the wrong way

There was a small error right off. It's true the Cooper was the first midengined car to win an official WMC race it was not the first successful midengined car in any series. The Auto Union C-type and D-type won a number of races in the '30s. They may not have won the European Championship up against Mercedes, but they were certainly competitive. And I believe the 6 wheel version of the C-type did win the European Hillclimb Championship.

Just had a thought, Max has been really unhappy with his car, so do they build the new one for him and give Perez his old one?

Don't know if they still do it, but teams used to build Monaco only front suspension parts because the hairpin is so tight they needed more lock than at any other track.

It's certainly tough to put a dollar value on these things, as you're paying for manpower more so than materials.  The cars need to be broken down and rebuilt between races anyway.  Who knows how many Monaco parts were planned to be on the Canada version of the RBR?  How many reserve parts are there that need to be replenished?

I do think there might be a way to create non cap fund for repairing cars.  Like all teams, or FOM or FIA pays into it and that's how teams pay for repairs (for crashes that were officially 'not their fault').  Any left over funds at the end of the season go into FIA's charitable endeavors.  It allows teams to focus on development, and make sure they're paying their staff as much as they can, rather than holding on to a reserve that presumably goes back to whoever owns the team when not spent.
