Jenson to stay at McLaren
« on: September 12, 2011, 08:01:17 AM »
This was/is the biggest no brainer of the season and McLaren coming out to say is of no surprise other than its taken this long. There is of coarse the tabloid press's version of it is that he will stay for life for £80 million, I would consider that too!!

Jens was always going to stay next year, McLaren would be stark staring mad not to take up the option, the rest is just the media pushing for a story.

I agree John...McLaren would be mad to lose there current "team leader" to a rival team ;)

Seems to have become that, hasn't it.  Jenson is more and more becoming the 'face' of Mclaren.  Hamilton has shown his immaturity a bit too often to be considered the team leader.  I expect Lewis will see out his contract and then jump ship.

I am delighted that Jenson will stay at Maclaren. I really hope they retain both Button and Hamilton. I think Hamilton will develop into a multi-championship winner and will always be exciting. Button may also still have a championship within him and will be the 'thinking' driver. Having both drivers would leave Maclaren in a strong position and makes them a natural favourite for many British fans.

Hopefully Hamilton is learning from his teammate.

I really don't know what to expect from Hamilton.  It would seem to me that McLaren has been such a large part of his life, the decision to leave won't be easy.

We know that McLaren is unlikely to ever make him feel like a 'Number Two' driver... which would make it easier to leave.

Personally, I love the idea of Hamilton spending his entire career with one team.  I know it's not the norm in F1, and obviously staying with McLaren can be about money as much as loyalty, but I think it would be fantastic.

Jenson just seems to be coming into his own and maturing into a true great.  I know Vettel is winning, but Jenson seems to be the form driver at the moment

They would have been insane to allow Jenson to go. I'm not a McLaren fan but I have a load of respect for Jenson. He's a class act that any team should be proud to have on the books.  :good:

We also have to remember that it was said Lewis would "blow him away" which has not been the case and actually becoming the opposite.

I cannot see Lewis leaving as he has no where to go, why leave a potential championship team for a lesser team that just may succeed?
